PSP Annual CBLs

Now available on NetLearning. See email for course numbers. There are 5 total: USP 797, TPNs, Chemo & hazardous drug, Aseptic technique and Cleanroom personnel processes. Please complete by the end of February.

Aeroscout Update

PSP is now monitoring 24 locations. There is a new double door refrigerator at GMT holding sequestered drugs. We are no longer using the “tall drink refrigerator” that was routinely alerting for high temperatures.

Pharmacy Keeper visit

Pharmacy Keeper was on site last month and several issues were addressed. Of course, several issues remain. April has created binders of information on how to use Pharmacy Keeper verification properly including appropriate pictures and troubleshooting when issues arise.

Use PKV for all products (iCare and batches) and let us know which products are problematic. Once the recipes are in place more info will be disseminated on using PK.

Robot Update

Oxytocin 30 units/NS 500 mL and norepinephrine 8 mg/NS 250 mL are the next drugs to be made. neostigmine syringes are changing from 5 mL fill to 3 mL fill.

Vein Bath for CVOR

CVOR has resumed making vein bath in the OR. For now PSP will not prepare and place in Pyxis.

HealthSouth Switching to Cerner

HealthSouth rehab has a new clinical information system. Orders for dialysis patients from HealthSouth will be verified by the Q pharmacist in iCare one time orders-no iCare label will print. Each dose of medication will be verified/send and sent to the resupply printer.

Heparin for Cath Lab

PSP is temporarily preparing Heparin 10,000 units/NS 1000 mL for the cath lab. M-F the U3 is preparing and Sat-Sun the T1 and N are preparing. Once completed, place in receiving in central pharmacy for pick up each day.

Isuprel Syringes for EP Lab

Beginning soon, PSP will make isoproterenol 200 mcg/1 mL syringes for EP Lab. Each Saturday 5 syringes will be prepared sent to EP Lab 2 pyxis refrigerator. All the old syringes will removed from pyxis and wasted in PSP.

Zosyn 2.25 in Pyxis (Main only)

Zosyn 2.25 g vials are no longer being loaded into pyxis machines and all doses will be sent from PSP. Zosyn 3.375 g has been made standard stock in most Pyxis machines.

Technician CE

Free technician CE Saturday March 4 and Saturday March 25th from 8AM-4PM at Huntsville Hospital Corporate University. Lunch will be provided. An email will be sent for pre-registration. Topics to be covered include: informatics, opiate epidemic, new drugs, medication safety, transitions of care, investigational drugs and hazardous meds.
