Annual Media Fill/Glove Tip and CBLs

It’s that time of year again! Please come down to PSP or BMT to complete your media fill and glove tip test during the month of December. All IV trained personnel who work at main have 4 CBLs to complete and all IV trained personnel at W&C have 3 CBLs to complete.

Impella Heparin Purge Solution

PSP makes heparin purge solution for the Impella device. The concentration is 12,500 units/500 mL D5W or 6,250 units/500 mL D5W, which is different than what is used for therapeutic heparin doses.

Tranexamic Acid for CVOR

CVOR is using tranexamic acid in place of Amicar to reduce bleeding. Midnights is making TXA 2 g in NS 500 mL. The bags get 7 day expiration refrigerated and can be done in Pharmacy Keeper. These can now be refilled into the PSP carousel and will come off on PSP batch in the morning. Par level in PSP is 8.

On-Q Pump update

All ortho patients (except 1) who have gotten ON-Q pumps have gone home POD#1, so needless to say it is going well. Trauma surgery is going to start a pilot on trauma patients who have multiple rib fractures – anticipate getting these from PharMedium.

IV Fluid Shortage

All NS and D5W 25 mL, 50 mL and 100 mL bags are on backorder. In addition NS 250 mL, 500 mL and 1,000 mL are becoming short on supply. All Mini-Bag Plus 50 mL and 100 mL are on backorder. We are working with Logistics and nursing to plan next steps.

MBP Returns

When separating returns that come back from the nursing units, please separate the MBP vials from the MBP bag (except Merrem). This allows the minibags to be rotated and not expire.
