Penicillin G potassium is the workhorse IV penicillin product.
Penicillin G sodium should be automatically interchanged to penicillin G potassium on a 1:1 dosage ratio, unless the practitioner believes that the extra potassium cannot be tolerated. In these cases penicillin G sodium may be used. Pharmacists may perform this interchange automatically.
