Iron dextran (Infed) is restricted to patients requiring single-dose iron replacement to facilitate hospital discharge and to use in the hospital outpatient setting.
INFED test dose should be administered 1 hours prior to the first INFED infusion (Huntsville Hospital Medication Safety recommendation).
INFED is the formulary iron dextran product. DEXFERREM is classified as non-formulary, not stocked and should be interchanged to the same dose of INFED.
