Standard Dose

  • 100 mg (0.5 mL 20% solution)

Acetylcysteine for inhalation may be administered orally.

Oral acetylcysteine (MUCOMYST) is more cost effective than IV acetylcysteine (ACETADOTE) formulations

Oral uses: contrast-induced nephropathy prophylaxis & acetaminophen poisoning

Acetylcysteine nebulization: If no duration is specified, acetylcysteine will be automatically adjusted to a duration of 72 hrs.  It may be re-ordered.

The dosing interval of acetylcysteine nebulization should be adjusted to match the dosing interval/schedule of other nebulized medications (i.e. albuterol, ipratropium, levalbuterol).
