Document to Intrathecal Labeling with Pictures

Hello all,

I want to update you on a recent policy change that will effect dispensing in PSP. The nursing medication administration policy for intrathecal medications now states that we must provide:

  • Syringes labeled 'For Intrathecal Use'
  • Syringes packaged, transported and stored in a designated container separate from other IV meds.

We have ordered new intrathecal auxiliary stickers to place directly on syringes:

We have also purchased a printed bag declaring the same message so that it will be visually distinct from other syringes dispensed:

The following list includes the most commonly prepared intrathecal doses.  There could be other medications requested on occasion.

  • Vancomycin
  • Gentamicin
  • Methotrexate
  • Methotrexate + Hydrocortisone
  • Cytarabine + Hydrocortisone

Thank you for being a great team,
