10/20/20 rc Modafinil/Armodafinil in Pregnancy

In a recent post-marketing report, both modafinil and armodafinil were associated with an important increased rate of major congenital malformations with use during pregnancy, versus the general population.  Prior to this, no reliable human data was available and some animal data suggested moderate risk, but inadvertent  human exposure during pregnancy was viewed as not representing a major risk of embryo-fetal harm.
