Subject: promethazine (PHENERGAN) inj outage

Injectable promethazine (PHENERGAN) is on national backorder and our supply is nearly depleted. P&T has listed promethazine injectable and prochlorperazine (COMPAZINE) injectable as interchangeable products when a phenothiazine anti-emetic is needed. Pharmacists will make this conversion automatically when Phenergan IV/IM is ordered - the dosage conversion will be Phenergan 25 mg IV/IM to Compazine 10 mg IV/IM. Our supply of ondansetron (ZORFAN) is adequate and is available for anti-emetic use as needed. Additionally, we have a plentiful supply of Phenergan tablets and suppositories and these will be dispensed when ordered via these routes.

Thanks for your patience during this and other drug shortages. We will keep you updated. DAVID
