HH - COVID-19 - Dexamethasone Criteria for Use 6-22-2020

Pharmacists,

Literature has emerged to support the use of dexamethasone for the treatment of COVID-19 in patients requiring supplemental oxygen. As a result, AMT has developed a use criteria (attached) to help conserve this therapy for patients that may benefit the most from dexamethasone.

P&T has approved the attached restriction criteria for dexamethasone in the treatment of COVID-19 ADULT patients.  This new process will hopefully prevent this medication from going on shortage as we are seeing more patients with this devastating disease. This restriction criteria does NOT apply to the use of dexamethasone for non-COVID related indications.

Please reach out to the AMT if you have any questions regarding this criteria, and thank you for your continued effort in managing these patients!
