Subject: Tip sheets - Home Insulin Pumps at Huntsville Hospital
Hey everyone!
Please review the following linked tip sheets at your earliest convenience about Home Insulin Pumps in Cerner:
1. The first tip sheet walks through how staff will enter Home Insulin Pumps within home med lists (Document Meds by Hx)
https://docushare.hhsys.org/dsweb/Get/Document-84447/Entering%20Insulin%20Pumps%20in%20Document%20Meds%20by%20Hx.pdf
2. The second tip sheet includes how to enter and verify inpatient orders for Home Insulin Pumps, and dispense vials for refill from Central Pharmacy:
https://docushare.hhsys.org/dsweb/Get/Document-84448/Entering%20and%20Verifying%20Insulin%20Pumps%20for%20Inpatient%20use.pdf
Note: this inpatient tip sheet is now included in the PharmIT master on Formweb
Some key points:
- All inpatient orders for Home Insulin Pumps must be ordered through the "ENDOCRIN Insulin Continuous Subcutaneous Pump Orders" PowerPlan. Exception: patients in the ED who have not been admitted may be placed on a temporary Insulin Pump order.
- You should not need to adjust the orders from this PowerPlan during verification.
- If a patient needs a refill of HumaLOG or Insulin Regular from our inpatient supply, you should enter a Once order for an insulin vial. The tip sheet recommends a way to enter these orders so they are clear for staff.
Many thanks to Katie Varner, Erik Roberts, and Michele Durda for their assistance on this project. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
