Subject: Allergen alerts

The following message was added to PULSE announcements in case you get questions:

 

If allergens are adjusted to be ‘intolerance’ or ‘side effect,’ clinical alerts will not prompt users of potential drug-allergen interactions.  Please leave allergens as ‘allergies’ to allow the system to trigger clinical alerts to provide maximum safety for our patients.

An example of where allergies were adjusted by a prescriber to 'intolerance' incorrectly: 





Some suggested changes will be presented at a future Policy & Procedure meeting concerning who should list or when to change an allergen to intolerance or side effect.
