Subject: inhalers

As you probably know, metered dose inhalers are the preferred delivery method for pulmonary meds when there is concern over droplet dispersion. After approval from members of the medical staff, nursing, respiratory therapy, and pharmacy, we may now dispense inhalers for COVID-19 patients in situations where we would have used nebulizers in the past. We have already been utilizing albuterol MDIs and you will see more requests for these plus anticholinergics [preferred tiotropium (SPIRIVA)] and steroids [preferred mometasone(ASMANEX)]. Please note that we have a limited supply of several inhalers and our wholesaler is already showing NO STOCK on some of them. This info is fluid and may change every few days based on availability of drugs. If there is a question, please work closely with RT to determine the need for any ordered inhalers.

Thanks for all that you have done and continue to do for our patients. It is easy to see that we have an incredible Pharmacy department and you all are doing a great job during this trying time. DAVID
