Subject: Re: COVID-19 Medications

Good morning,

To this point, there are no antiviral medications that have been proven to be effective against COVID-19 in humans, but many randomized controlled trials are ongoing.  I wanted to pass along some information regarding potential antiviral treatment options in case we get any questions or if we want to acquire any of these medications.
  1. Remdesivir
    • Only available from Gilead on a compassionate use basis. I have reached out to Gilead and requested information on how to acquire this medication should we need it.  They said they would get back to me regarding the process, but they are exceptionally busy as you would imagine.
    • Dosing = 200 mg IV load on day 1, followed by 100 mg IV once-daily for 9 additional days
  2. Chloroquine
    • Limited data has emerged regarding favorable findings in the treatment of COVID-19
    • Dosing = 500 mg PO BID x 10 days
  3. Hydroxychloroquine
    • Theorized to be more potent than chloroquine and better tolerated
    • Dosing = 400 mg BID x 2 doses, then 200 mg BID for 4 days
  4. Lopinavir / Ritonavir (Kaletra)
    • Dosing = LPV/r 400/100 mg BID for 14 days
The last two might be our best options as far as acquisition goes.  Not sure if we want to begin trying to acquire any of these medications or not?  No strong evidence that they will work, but the supplies of these will probably be depleted very shortly as these were probably not in good supply to begin with.

Let me know if you have any questions.
