Subject: Tikosyn: New Rule in Cerner Today 3/12/20

This afternoon a new rule will be added to Cerner specific to EKG monitoring for new start of Tikosyn (dofetilide).

This rule will create the follow-up 12 Lead EKG order after the Nurse charts the administration of the medication.  This EKG will be automatically timed for 2 hours after the Tikosyn administration time.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Proper functioning of this rule depends on the existence of an active “Consult to Pharmacy-Dofetilide (New start)” order which is placed at the same time as the Tikosyn inpatient powerplan.  Therefore, for a new start of Tikosyn, it is important that we do not remove/discontinue/void this specific Consult to Pharmacy order (shown below):.

Following implementation of the rule and proper validation in the Production environment, we will be updating the current Tikosyn Powerplan to remove the ‘Consult to Pharmacy Notification’ order  and make the ‘Consult to Pharmacy-Dofetilide (new start)’ a required order.  Additionally, we will be removing the PharmNET Order Alert for Pharmacists to place a consult at time of verification.  These changes should be in place early next week.

Please note that this rule does not apply to Tikosyn continued inpatient from a Home Medication (since the dependent consult mentioned above will not be present).

Please let myself or Gregg Knowles know of you have any questions or experience any issues with this rule.
