Subject: Subcutaneous Haldol in Palliative Care

Pharmacists:

This email is to alert all pharmacists responsible for inpatient order verification that Haldol (haloperidol lactate) can be administered via subcutaneous injection in palliative care ONLY. If you receive an order from any of the palliative care providers, please proceed with verification as you normally would. If you have concerns, the providers have asked that they be contacted prior to automatically changing the route. In the event you receive an order for a patient not followed by palliative care, it is recommended that the provider be contacted to suggest an alternative route per usual.

If you have any questions, please let me know. Thanks!
