02/16/2017 MD -- Multimodal analgesia protocol (Joint Camp)

Subject: Multimodal analgesia protocol (Joint Camp)

A number of questions have been raised about the appropriateness of concurrent tramadol use (multimodal analgesia protocol) and PCA. The scheduled tramadol concurrent with PCA for breakthrough pain is appropriate. The multimodal protocol has been reviewed by Anesthesia and no concerns were raised about the tramadol concurrent with PCA. So far these patients appear to be doing well from a pain management standpoint. Brian Boyett is collecting data on these patients and their outcomes are being evaluated. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about this new order set. Thanks, Michele
