Subject: mupirocin ointment

Mupirocin (Bactroban) ointment is unavailable from the wholesaler and we have 22 in stock. Jonathan and Justin have conferred with the ID physicians and here is the plan:

    1. MRSA nasal decolonization - povidone iodine skin and nasal swabs (I have given Brad Pounders a heads up on the soon-to-be increased demand for this product
    2. Empiric topical use for wounds - polysporin ointment (Keith will order much larger amounts of polysporin oint to get us through the shortage)
    3. Documented MRSA wound infection - polysporin ointment (note: this was previously mupirocin cream, but the ID physicians recommended a change to polysporin oint) - we only show 9 polysporin's on the carousel, but Keith will order at least 30 with the next order.

Once we are out of Bactroban, these orders should be switched automatically. DAVID
