Subject: calcium gluconate 2,000 mg/100 mL IVPB change
Beginning today, all 3 hospitals will be transitioning to a new commercially available premixed calcium gluconate 2,000 mg/100 mL NaCl IVPB.
During the transition, Pyxis will have a mixture of PSP prepared calcium gluconate in D5W and the new calcium gluconate in sodium chloride. The two products will share the same MedID and both have been trained to scan in Cerner and Pyxis. When removing the drug from Pyxis, the user will get a pop-up message alerting them that the diluent could be D5W or NaCl.
In Cerner, APA has been turned off for the D5W product so all future orders should APA to the sodium chloride product. Once the supply of calcium in D5W has been depleted, the D5W option will be un-flexed from all 3 hospitals.
Thanks,
