Subject: heparin bag backorder

Heparin 25,000 units/ 1/2NS 250 mL bags are on backorder; however, Keith was able to procure 25,000 units/D5W 250 mL.

During the backorder, the different fluid types will be interchangeable. Cerner will maintain the 1/2NS fluid name, but the Pyxis may contain either fluid. A Pyxis pop-up will alert the nurse that the fluid may be D5W. Either type bag will scan at the Pyxis and at the bedside.

Thanks,

Berkley
