Subject: TPN labels and consult list

Pharmacists,

To help ensure all TPNs are made each day, please call PSP (5-8286) or the TPN technician (4-5216) for the following occurrences:

  • Initiating a new TPN
  • Discontinuing a TPN
  • Giving an accurate location when a patient transfers, or returns to their room from a procedure in the event the label printed while the patient was away from their room

In addition:

The consult list in Cerner is not helpful because of it's fluidity during the day. There is a new Sentri7 list (PSP tab/Active TPNs) that will be printed out each morning and referred to at the end of the day as a double check for missing TPNs and changed room numbers. I will send out separate instructions for this to PSP staff.

Let me know if you have any questions!
