Subject: BH Abilify Maintena Powerplan

The BH Abilify Maintena Powerplan has been updated to facilitate workflow. Please review the key points and instructions below.

Updates:

  •  Abilify Maintena dose has been changed from "once" to "q month" - it will still function like a once order, but having it verified with a monthly schedule allows for prescribers to continue the medication at discharge. This helps them to remember to coordinate getting the outpatient doses scheduled.
  • Abilify PO x 14 days after Abilify Maintena is no longer automatically selected - this allows prescribers flexibility if they would rather continue a different oral antipsychotic after the Maintena is given. Please make sure patient has an oral antipsychotic ordered for at least 14 days post dose.
  • Abilify Maintena order sentences are hidden outside of the power plan.
  • Abilify Maintena does not need to be rejected for follow up after test doses - Maintena order has comments about only giving if tolerant of PO doses. RNs are now responsible for letting pharmacy/prescribers know if the patient does not tolerate the medication, so it can be discontinued. Pharmacy should wait to send the dose until the day it is to be administered.
