Beginning today, Main will no longer be using PSP-prepared EPINEPHrine 1 mg/10 mL syringes. Instead, we will store 10 of the boxed EPI syringes in a clear plastic bag on top of the RPh Code Bag for pharmacists to take to codes. We will continue our efforts to conserve boxed EPI syringes by using 4 EPI KITS in place of boxed syringes in each ADULT code tray that we refill.
Please be aware that it is likely we will have a mixture of ADULT code trays that contain (6 boxed EPI syringes) VS (2 boxed EPI syringes + 4 EPI KITS) for the duration of this shortage.

Subject: EPINEPHrine emergency syringe national shortage - conservation measures initiated
IMPORTANT CHANGES Re: EPINEPHrine for Code Blues:
- Beginning today, Main and HHWC (does not affect Madison Hosp at this time) will reduce the number of boxed EPI syringes in the ADULT code trays from 6 to 2 per tray. The 4 boxed syringes that are removed will be replaced by 4 EPI KITS (EPI 1 mg/1 mL vial + 0.9% NaCl 10 mL vial). Instructions for preparation are provided on the kit's label. **note: NO changes to PEDIATRIC code trays at this time**
- At Main, PSP-prepared EPI 1 mg/10 mL syringes will be stored in amber bag(s) on top of the RPh Code Bag and are to be taken by the pharmacist to the called codes . This will allow the pharmacist to hand out these PSP-prepared EPI syringes during the code.
- At Main, Central Pharmacists are responsible for logging the location for all code trays that are given out the window (both Peds and Adult). This has a 2-fold reason: 1. when the EPI shortage resolves, we can replace the KITS with boxed syringes 2. to document the location of our Peds and Adult crash carts
