UPDATE: We are also going to include the CSSM patients in those that must be switched to the MDVs because they are transferring out to units so they need the MDV order active. Thx Becky

HH Main Pharmacist: 'regular' nursing units on Floors 2nd - 8th + SICU....Effective immediately, when verifying labetalol for these patients, you will need to change the product to the 20 mL vial and use No Cosign Required for all new orders. We are in the process of changing the existing orders now.

Importance: High

Attachment: Labetalol MDV flyer with CERNER edits

Once again we have a critically low supply of labetalol (especially the syringes) so we are going to transition to MULTI-DOSE VIALS beginning at Main on Friday, 2/22/19. See attached 2-page flyer that will be posted in the affected nursing units' med rooms. At Main, the MDVs will be used in all 'regular' nursing units on 2nd - 8th floors + SICU (note: units like dialysis and CSSM will NOT use the MDVs). Madison Hosp and HHWC may do this same process at a later date.

This will work very differently from the iCare days so please familiarize yourself with the changes (on the attachment). This will work like the NEW insulin pend/load/removal process works.

For TECHS and Central Pharmacists:
1. Vials must be dated with a 28-day expiration date sticker (printed from MILT under: labetalol 6-label)
2. You should not need to pend MDVs to any additional areas, but if you do, you will need to pended as FRACTIONAL and loaded by number of vials.
3. WHEN REFILLING: REFILL by NUMBER OF VIALS (just like we do with insulin).

For VERIFYING PHARMACISTS:
1. Tomorrow (in the morning) Steven and I will change all of the affected active orders for the labetalol syringes to product select the 20-mL MDV vial.
2. I will send out an email when #1 above is finished...at that time ALL NEW ORDERS FOR LABETALOL injection, on the affected units, will need to have the PRODUCT SELECTION CHANGED TO THE 20-mL VIAL during the process of verification!!!  You will get a pop-up warning in Cerner to remind you of this during verification.

** We will get this information on Pulse Page for Nursing too**

Let me know if you have questions
