Subject: New Kayexalate product

Sodium polystyrene sulfonate 15 g/60 mL oral suspension is on backorder. We are now stocking sodium polystyrene sulfonate 15 g POWDER for suspension. This new SPS product comes in 15 g bottles that will require the nurse to add 60 mL of water per 15 g of drug prior to administration.

Please make sure you select the POWDER product when verifying orders for SPS. Also, pay close attention to the order comments....currently the default comment will say "Reconstitute with 60 mL of water"....this only applies to a 15 g dose. If the dose is 30 g, you will need to change the comment to say "Reconstitute with 120 mL of water".

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,
