12/26/18 RB -- Sodium Phos bolus doses for adults

Subject: Sodium Phos bolus doses for adults

Sodium phosphate has been on backorder for quite some time now, and we have been trying to reserve it for use in neonatal TPNs.  While it has been removed from adult TPNs, we have had a few bolus doses of sodium phosphate ordered for adults.

Unfortunately, our stock has dropped to a critically low level.  To assure we have an adequate supply for neonates, we need to eliminate bolus doses of sodium phosphate for adults. We can continue to dispense IV potassium phosphate for bolus doses.  In the past we have utilized oral/tube doses if the potassium phosphate cannot be tolerated.

The release date for sodium phosphate is currently listed as late January 2019.

Thank you,
Robin B.
