Subject: ondansetron shortage

We have almost completely exhausted our supply of ondansetron (ZOFRAN) 4 mg/2 mL vials. We continue to be able to obtain a reasonable multi-dose vials of ondansetron, but they are likely to become short as well.

We need everyone's help to convert as many patients as possible to the oral disintegrating tablet (ODT) form of ondansetron. These ODTs are very small, pleasantly flavored, quick dissolving, and very effective for prophylaxis of nausea/vomiting.

Pharmacists, in consultation with nursing, will begin converting ondansetron injection to ODTs where appropriate. Please watch for these changes today and tomorrow as we work to mitigate this shortage.

Additionally, if you are in an area where the multi-dose vials are stocked, please be sure to check your floorstock cabinet to see if there is an already-opened vial before you remove another vial from Pyxis.

Thanks for your help with this matter. DAVID
