Importance: High
Attachment: Pharmacy Security

This email is to serve as a reminder for most, but may be new information to some of our newer employees. Please read (paying close attention to the bold red info below). I have also attached the Pharmacy Security Policy. Please review it and understand your responsibilities. Please remember that Pharmacy areas are considered SECURE areas, and we need to be vigilant to maintain that security.

Here are some highlighted points:
  • Individuals (both hospital and non-hospital employees) are not routinely allowed inside the Pharmacy (this includes family and/or friends of Pharmacy personnel). Do NOT automatically grant access to a known or unknown individual without the approval of the person they are here to see AND a supervisor.

  • Non-hospital employees, on official business, may be granted access after validating and approving the purpose of their visit. A supervisor must be made aware and approve the access before granting entry. If granted access, they must be escorted by a member of pharmacy staff.

  • Monitor delayed door closures to assure that unauthorized persons do not follow you into the pharmacy.

  • To activate a silent/duress alarm (notifies Hospital Security) using a door entry keypad:

  1. Hold your badge over the keypad to activate the proximity scanner

  2. Enter your PIN number PLUS ADD ONE TO YOUR USUAL PIN NUMBER.

(Example if your current PIN is 1234 then to gain entry while under duress, you would type 1235 to send a duress signal to the security command center.) If your PIN number ends in "9" you still add one to the number (example: PIN of 5219 will use 5220 to create an alarm code).

NOTE: If you do not know the locations of the silent/duress alarms in your area(s), find them!
