Subject: CRITICAL shortage of NS and D5W piggybacks!!
Importance: High

Due to high-impact shortages/backorders of both NS and D5W piggybacks, the following changes will begin immediately at HH Main, HHWC, and Madison Hospital pharmacies:

  • 100 mL mini-bags, mini-bag PLUS, and ADD-Vantage bags will be assigned an expiration date of 2 months once removed from the overwrap. (formerly, we assigned a 30-day expiration date).

  • 50 mL mini-bags, mini-bag PLUS, and ADD-Vantage bags will be assigned an expiration date of 1 month once removed from the overwrap (formerly, we assigned a 15-day expiration date).

  • DO NOT DISCARD EXPIRED 50 mL or 100 mL mini-bags, mini-bag PLUS, or ADD-Vantage bags. A bin/receptacle will be placed in the receiving area of each pharmacy (HH Main, HHWC, and Madison Hosp). Please put 'expired' bags in these bins.

  • We are out, or almost out, of individually wrapped 50 mL and 100 mL mini-bags. If these are needed to refill boxes, trays, or Pyxis, we must use mini-bags dated with a 1-month (50 mL) or 2-month (100 mL) expiration date.
