7/8/26 Anticoagulants and Intracranial Hemorrhage Rule

July 8, 2026

Pharmacists,

A new Cerner rule targeting anticoagulants order on a patient with potential intracranial hemorrhage went live 7/6.

To ensure appropriate clinical attention is given to this situation, an alert will display for all providers (excluding Neurosurgery) when attempting to sign an order containing an anticoagulant if the patient has a either a diagnosis of intracranial hemorrhage or an active Neurosurgery Consult.  This alert will only present ONCE for each provider every 8 hours.  This rule has been running in the background for over a month and hasn’t had any hits yet, so I anticipate it to be a very low frequency alert. PharmIT is investigating adding aspirin combination products to the rule as they were not initially included. Please let us know if you have any feedback on the alert.
