just a heads up....I believe that we will need to re-implement the multi-dose labetalol vial plan some time next week. Keith is unable to procure any of the labetalol syringes.

We currently have about a 20 day supply of syringes (Pyxis pockets + carousel stock). We do not want to completely run out of the syringes because we will want to keep those in our low use areas (so we don't have to stock a multi-dose bottle in those locations). We'll send out more info when we do live with this again.

One additional key point for nursing. Labetalol is protect from light and must be kept in the box.

To conserve labetalol IV, we are planning to dispense 100 mg/20 mL multi-dose vials to selected high use areas (in place of the 20 mg/4 mL syringes that are currently on backorder). Neuro ICU was changed over yesterday. Pharmacy will date the vials on dispense and monitor the dating. The open vial is to be kept in the floorstock cabinet and replaced from Pyxis by the nurse when the vial is empty. This is the same process being used for nitroglycerin tablets. See attached flyer.

We would like to get this rolled out to the following areas as soon as possible:

8MST/8N
7W
2E/2W
5E/5W
STICU
4MST/4NE
7NE/7N/7NW

I need a clinical specialist to "claim" each of these areas and work with the manager/charge nurses/educators to implement the change over. I have attached a flyer and labels to help with the implementation. Once you have the approval of nursing in the area, please coordinate with Andrea/Cassie to have the multi-dose vials loaded and the syringes unloaded. Please also ensure that there is a labeled bin in the floorstock cabinet for storage of the open vial.

Let me know if you have any questions or if I can help in any way...

Thanks!
