8/6/25 Promethazine (PHENERGAN) Injection Shortage

August 6, 2025

Pharmacists,
Promethazine (PHENERGAN) 25 mg/ml injectable solution is on national backorder. We are reserving our remaining vials for use in pediatrics and hyperemesis gravidarum. For adult patients at HH Main, pharmacists may automatically interchange promethazine to prochlorperazine (COMPAZINE) per FormWeb. A Sentri7 rule, located in the "Backorders" tab, has been created to identify active orders. Please utilize this to convert existing orders to prochlorperazine as clinically appropriate. We will not be changing any PowerPlans at this time but will continue to evaluate if that will be necessary. Please let us know if you have any questions.
