Non-oncology nurses can also administer non-antineoplastic Table 1 medications like ganciclovir and cyclosporine.
Thanks for the clarification, Donna.

Pharmacists,
Given the updates to NIOSH, there have been an influx of calls to pharmacists regarding safe handling and administration policies related to the NIOSH classifications. Many non-oncology nurses are still confused about which medications they can administer themselves. Non-oncology trained nurses can administer Table 2 Hazardous agents and these agents must be administered using proper PPE along with a closed-system (PhaSeal) device. If there are questions specifically regarding administration of these agents, please instruct nurses to reach out to their Nurse Educators and/or call the Oncology Nursing Units for guidance. Nursing education is under way and will include CBLs and demonstrations for nursing. We have told nursing that pharmacists are not trained, and will not know the answer to, most administration questions.
Attached is a flyer that PSP sends with hazardous medications. We will post this to FormWeb should you ever need to reference it.
Thanks,
