2/3/25 Standard Heparin Infusion PREMIX: Diluent Description Update Tuesday, Feb 11

February 3, 2025

Currently the standard Heparin 25,000 units/250 mL Infusion PREMIX product defaults a diluent description of Premix Sodium Chloride 0.45% (1/2NS).  However, in reality, we often use 1/2NS and D5W premix products interchangeablyparticularly in times of backorder.

In preparation for a new heparin drip rule (more information on this rule forthcoming), we will be updating PROD on Tuesday, February 11 to display the diluent for the standard heparin 25,000 unit/250 mL as “Premix diluent for heparin infusion” instead of specifying a diluent type.  This change will display in multiple places in the chart as seen in screenshots below.  There will be no need to re-enter current infusions when this change goes into effect—as new orders are placed, the new diluent description will display.

If you have any questions or concerns before this change goes into effect, please let us know.  Thank you.
