1/6/25 D5W 1000ml Bags - Critical Shortage

January 6, 2025

Pharmacists,

We are unexpectedly not getting our normal shipments/allocation of D5W 1000 ml bags. We are down to a very short supply so please try to change any orders you see for D5W 1000 ml to an alternative fluid. For sodium bicarb drips try to use sterile water, for instance. We do have SOME 500 ml and 250 ml bags that we can use for boluses or other low rate infusions but we anticipate that those will not last long once people start increasing usage. We will have more info and hopefully some additonal direction soon, but I wanted to get this out to you all now. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Thanks,
