11/25/24 dilaudid 0.5 mg/0.5 mL injection (med ID 999542) *URGENT SHORTAGE* Huntsville Hospital Main Only

November 25, 2024

We are experiencing a critical shortage of  dilaudid 0.5 mg/0.5 mL injection at Huntsville Hospital Main. HHWC and Madison Hospital are not impacted at this time.

Beginning immediately, all NEW orders for injectable dilaudid (doses of 1 mg or less) will default to dilaudid 1 mg/1 mL syringes/vials in Cerner and Pyxis.

Pharmacy will begin converting any existing inpatient orders for dilaudid 0.5 mg/0.5 mL syringes/vials as appropriate.

Note: The Dilaudid 1 mg/1 mL product is on the critical care/emergent override list, so it can be overridden in cases where the 0.5 mg remains on the profile not stocked, but the 1 mg is available in the device.  The 0.5 mg/0.5 mL and 1 mg/1 mL products do scan interchangeably in Cerner.

Please let me know of you have any questions.

Thanks,
