11/12/24 New Sentri7 Rule - Magnesium

November 12, 2024

Pharmacists,

There is a new rule that has been activated in Sentri7 that looks for patients that are on the HOSP Electrolyte Replacement Protocol with a magnesium serum level of 1.6 that have not yet been treated. Through an MUE, Jerry discovered a large percentage of patients with the exact result of 1.6 were not treated, likely due to our lab reference range including 1.6 as "normal". We attempted to adjust the reference range but were not able to due to the number of players involved.

The rule is located in the Clinical Alerts tab so that pharmacists hopefully get to it relatively early in their shift. Pharmacists may either 1) enter the HOSP Electrolyte Replacement Orders or 2) contact nursing to have them enter the orders. Either option is acceptable and we will leave that up to the individual pharmacist to decide. I have checked the rule over the last few days and there are generally 5 or 6 patients triggering for the rule across Madison, Main, and W&C so hopefully this will not be much of an added burden to pharmacist workload.

Let me or Jerry know if you have any questions or concerns.

Thanks,
