10/24/24 KCL boluses to PO/tube

October 24, 2024

NS 100 mL is in critically low supply, impacting our ability to provide drugs via IV piggyback. It is imperative that we convert all IV medications to PO/tube when possible. One frequent opportunity for this conversion is POTASSIUM CHLORIDE boluses. Please evaluate all KCl boluses carefully and aggressively switch to PO/tube repletion when possible. This will help preserve our dwindling NS 100 mL supply for patients in whom there are no other options for drug delivery.

Thanks for all that you've done to help us combat the critical fluids shortage - your efforts are greatly appreciated. DAVID
