8/27/24 Aspirin BID + Anticoagulant Warning: Applied in PROD Today
August 27, 2024

Med Safety has recently received reports of Ortho Surgery patients receiving aspirin BID along with other anticoagulation (ex. Lovenox for VTE Prophylaxis) resulting in bleeding events/blood transfusion.

In order to address this, we have increased the Drug-Drug Interaction severity between aspirin BID and enoxaparin/dabigatran/apixaban/rivaroxaban/warfarin.  It will present as a standard Drug-Drug interaction alert as seen below:

Example

Please note that this trigger should be specific to only instances where aspirin is ordered BID.  If you encounter any examples where this alert is presented inappropriately, please let us know so that we can troubleshoot.  Thank you.
