5/21/24 Iron Infusions
May 21, 2024

Donna has just informed me that iron sucrose (VENOFER) is completely unavailable and that we will need to implement an alternative plan. Below is our plan to combat the shortage based on payer status:
  • INPATIENTS, SELF-PAY @ OPM, HH EMPLOYEES @ OPM: Iron dextran [if an INPATIENT can't tolerate iron dextran, may use Ferrlecit]
  • BCBS @ OPM - Feraheme
  • CMS and OTHER (non-BCBS) COMMERCIAL PAYERS @ OPM - Monoferric or Injectafer
We will keep you informed about the status of the iron sucrose shortage as well as any changes that may need to be made to this list of work-arounds. DAVID
