As the critical backorder for Dilaudid is resolved, the Dilaudid + Ketamine PCA order has been restored in the ANES PCA Spinal Narcotic Order Powerplan as of today. Please let us know if there are any questions about this update. Thank you.

PharmIT has received a request to un-flex Dilaudid + Ketamine PCA CPOE IV Sets from all facilities in Powerchart so orders can no longer be placed while the critical backorder for Dilaudid persists.
Currently, this IV Set is contained only in the ANES PCA Spinal Narcotic Orders Powerplan.
We plan to make this change by end of day tomorrow (Wednesday, March 13). Please let us know if this presents any concerns or if this needs to be communicated to any other individuals. Thank you.

Subject: Dilaudid + ketamine PCAs
The following message was sent to the HH Medical Staff today.
S: Beginning immediately, we will not be preparing any Dilaudid + ketamine PCAs in adult patients
B: Dilaudid + ketamine PCAs require a dose of 6 mg of Dilaudid. The only commercially available vials at this time contain 50 mg, result is wastage of 44 mg of Dilaudid for each PCA made.
A: In order to avoid this large waste of a CII medication, we will no longer prepare Dilaudid + ketamine PCAs
R: If ketamine is needed, it can be ordered separately from the Dilaudid PCA in appropriate settings. Alternately, you can chose a different multi-modal component for the patient's therapy.
If a Dilaudid + ketamine PCA is ordered, a pharmacist will contact the prescriber for order clarification and addition of an alternate drug, if desired.
