06/28/17 DC -- Protonix IV shortage

Subject: Protonix IV shortage

The drug backorder committee just informed me that Protonix IV is on national backorder and that the distribution centers are out. We have a 2-week supply and further stock is not expected until sometime in July.

Beginning NOW, please convert all possible IV pantoprazole patients to PO. If there is a documented GI bleed or the Protonix was ordered by GI, please work with the GI doc to convert to pantoprazole PO or famotidine IV. You can search for IV pantoprazole patients in Sentri-7.

Thank you for promptly addressing this issue and preserving our IV pantoprazole supply for the most critical patients. DAVID
