Subject: PLACEHOLDER orders

To all,

Up to now, placeholder orders for meds like vancomycin and coumadin have been HOLD orders built through MedManager.  The HOLD order could be confusing to the RN if a corresponding one-time order was also being used.  To alleviate this confusion, HOLD orders are being replaced with PLACEHOLDER orders.  PLACEHOLDER orders are very similar to HOLD orders, but hopefully the wording will allow a one-time order and the PLACEHOLDER order to coexist on the profile at the same time, until the one-time order is charted against and falls off the profile.  Like the HOLD order, the PLACEHOLDER order will inform prescribers the patient is on the drug in question and PKS is managing, the drug will display in Sentri for the reconciliation process, and it allows for drug interaction checking.  See attachment for tip sheet on PLACEHOLDER orders.  If you find you are using the same phrases repeatedly in the Order Comments section, let me know and we can look at having them built out as comma phrases or alternatively have them included in the Product Notes where they can be copy/pasted into the Order Comments section.

Let me know of any issues.
