VASHE

Wound care and Trauma, in August, received approval through Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee to begin using Vashe wound care solution for some patients in which Dakin's solution would have been used in the past.

Note:  this solution is a medication in Cerner and sent from Pharmacy.

Vashe can be used in wound care, including wet-to-dry dressings, general wound cleansing, and wound vacs (negative pressure wound therapy).  Although the use of the product was expected to be a few patients a month.  We have discovered much wider use than originally anticipated.

Fortunately, the product does seem to help with wound care.

I am attaching the formulary write up by DI to this email in case you have additional questions.
