Subject: Sticky Notes live in Cerner PowerChart

To all pharmacists (including W&C/MH):

Sticky Notes have been activated within Cerner PowerChart as a method to jot down information about patients for yourself and other pharmacists.  Sticky Note information is informational only, not ‘actionable’ information. ‘Actionable’ information that needs to be known at time of verification such as ‘concentrate all drips’ should be communicated through intervention or Pharmacy open chart alert.  Do not use for replacement of Pharmacy Interventions or Orders.

Please read the attached tip sheet for additional guidance on the use of Sticky Notes.

For those familiar, this feature is similar to Sticky Notes in EPIC but carry over across encounters.  We wanted to send out general education about this feature first.  Individual groups/areas can decide how best to utilize Sticky Notes moving forward.

Some usage possibilities suggested so far:

  • Documenting information about patients and treatment regimens by pharmacist groups when there is consensus to use/look for them on patients/patient lists
  • That a patient had a total hysterectomy
  • That a patient has a history of poor Vancomycin levels when treated with standard dosing

Please reach out if you have any questions.
