Subject: Parenteral certification renewal

Hello all,

Just a reminder about parenteral certification renewals that will be due in December.

From ALBOP - All pharmacists approved by ALBOP as parenteral pharmacists must successfully complete 2 hours of CE approved by the Board, including didactic and hands on training each renewal cycle.

It shall be the responsibility of the supervising pharmacist to verify the parenteral certification of pharmacists involved in the preparation of parenteral products.

All staff who regularly work in a PSP area (HH, HHWC, Madison) and several pharmacists who wished to maintain their parenteral certification completed an annual competency review at the beginning of this year.
The CBLs in NetLearning and media fill/glove tip testing performed at Huntsville Hospital have been approved by ALBOP to satisfy the 2-hour CE requirement and the hands-on training for renewal of certification. This is not ACPE approved CE and will not satisfy any other state's requirements if you happen to have multiple licenses. If you wish to complete ACPE-approved CE there are 5 available related to sterile compounding in the TRC CE & Training section.

Some are asking how the Board will be notified to satisfy your license requirements.
This is the response from ALBOP:
You (Huntsville Hospital) will not submit any hours to the Board. Those pharmacists with an active parenteral certification will renew this fall in alignment with their pharmacist license. They will attest they have completed the appropriate CE, and in the event they are selected for an audit, they will need to provide proof of attendance.

We will be able to print your Net Learning completion as well as your fingertip and media-fill results when requested.

If you have any questions, please let me know.
