Subject: Consult to Pharmacy Notification dummy order for TPN consults at Madison Hospital

A new rule for Madison Hospital will take effect Monday, April 25, 2022.  The will create a 'Consult to Pharmacy Notification’ order that shows in the PPM when a TPN consult is ordered at Madison.  The rule will create the order between 0800-2000.  An example of the notification order is shown below.

The primary goal for this rule is timely identification of new TPN consults.  This will be especially helpful when we receive new TPN consults close to the PSP cutoff time (i.e., when we are performing other tasks and are unable to check the consult list).  This will not change how we have been managing the consults; however, it will result in more timely notification.

Below is a summary review of how to handle these dummy orders.  2nd shift pharmacists will still be required to check Consults and Interventions and Sentri7 prior to closing to ensure no consults are missed as we have been doing.  Any new TPN consults ordered 2000-2230 will only show in the Active Consults/TPN Consults tabs.  You can assess if labs should be ordered for the next day then.  This will not affect overnight pharmacists as the rule will not fire during those hours.

Mon-Fri 0800-1630

Sat-Sun 0800-2000

Mon-Fri 1630-2000
