Hello everyone,

I wanted to send along a flowchart to help determine the appropriate steps to take when a patient assessment sheet comes in Order Image Viewer. The biggest thing with this is to ensure that the ENDOCRIN Insulin Continuous Subcutaneous Pump Orders PowerPlan is active within the patient MAR. You do not need to assess the information contained within the form other than to ensure it is entered under the correct patient. We are using this as a double-check to ensure that the PowerPlan is being entered appropriately. This has been discussed with a multi-disciplinary team and since this is not a very common occurrence (only 67 patients were continued on their insulin pump in the past year, only 1 patient was on an insulin pump in the past 4 weeks) we determined that this would be the best way to ensure patient safety and proper documentation.

Within the Cerner Tip Sheet you will find guidance on insulin pump verification and how to enter a pump refill if requested by the nurse; this tip sheet has been incorporated into the Cerner Master Tip sheet on Formweb. We will also be linking the attached flowchart on FormWeb under the Medication Guidelines, Protocols, and Dosing Charts tab

Please let me know if you have any questions or recommendations for improving this process as we go.
