Subject: New Powerform/Rule: Med Manager (PharmNET) Open Chart Alert

Several months ago we created a rule that permits the creation of a Pharmacy Open Chart alert so that when a patient is activated in any 1Chart Application (e.g. Powerchart, MedManager), the alert would display.  This was a specific need for St Jude where a patient was receiving an investigational drug with critical drug interactions which needed to display/warn users in the event they were admitted to an inpatient/ED encounter.

Following this implementation, there was a consideration that this same open chart alert workflow could be leveraged to create a Med Manager (PharmNET) specific alert for pharmacy user communication of unique patient details specific to an encounter (similar to the old ‘Pharmacy Notes’ field for those who remember iCare).

IMPORTANT NOTES:

  1. This field is not meant for communication of patient information which should be recorded elsewhere in the chart. Please do not use this field for communications regarding patient weightallergies, or pregnancy/lactation documentation.
  2. The idea behind this feature is to put other information that might be relevant to the verification process that doesn’t have a place elsewhere in the chart (e.g. “concentrate all drips”, “all drips in D5W per MD request”, “caution: patient is on a non-formulary heart medication”… or something to that effect.) Since pregnancy/lactation has a separate location where it needs to be charted appropriately, we don’t want this to be used for that information.
  3. Anything entered in this field is part of the medical record and is discoverable.  Please use appropriately.

This Powerform and Rule are now active in Production.  Attached is a document reviewing the creation of these alerts.  Please let us know if you have any questions or run into any problems with this Powerform/Rule.  Thank you.
