Subject: RE: Insulin Pump Policy/Protocol Updates

Hey all,

The pharmacist tip sheet on entering and verifying Home Insulin Pump orders has been updated with Allison’s instructions (see https://docushare.hhsys.org/dsweb/Get/Document-84448/Entering%20and%20Verifying%20Insulin%20Pumps%20for%20Inpatient%20use.pdf), and incorporated into the master Cerner Tip Sheet on Formweb for access anytime.

The updates Allison worked on include the following concepts:

  1. Makes it clearer for everyone that a patient capable of taking their home insulin pump will be filling out an assessment form (that does NOT require physician signature) and that nurses will be faxing this form to pharmacy so we can see it and Complete it in Order Image Viewer (not Form Browser)
  2. Emphasis on what you should be looking for in the chart when assessment forms are faxed/during verification/Sentri review
  3. Hopefully it is not common for pharmacists to help providers enter the ENDOCRIN Insulin Continuous Subcutaneous Pump Orders PowerPlan, but in case you do Cerner adjustments have been made and the tip sheet updated to walk you through it.
  4. Nursing has updated education for their staff, all of which has been linked to on the pharmacist tip sheet

Big thanks to Allison and Katie Varner for their work on this!
