Subject: Concentrated Potassium Chloride

Good morning.

We have roughly a 20-day supply of concentrated potassium chloride, used to prepare non-commercially available IV fluids and TPNs. We have sufficient quantities of potassium acetate and potassium phosphate. Effective immediately:

1. Utilize IV KPhos and KAc, as appropriate, in order to limit use of KCl in TPNs.
2. Use oral/feeding tube potassium supplementation when feasible.
3. Consider substituting existing IVFs for commercially available potassium-containing fluids, if appropriate.
